About Word Counter
Word Counter shows six live stats as you type or paste text: words, total characters, characters excluding spaces, lines, sentences, and paragraphs. All six update together, so you can watch a specific count while editing toward a limit.
Word and Character Limits by Platform
Different platforms enforce different limits, and it's easy to lose track of which one applies where. A post on X (formerly Twitter) is capped at 280 characters. A meta description in search results is typically truncated somewhere around 155–160 characters, though Google doesn't enforce a hard limit — it just cuts off what it shows. Academic and professional writing requirements are usually word-based rather than character-based, and vary by assignment or publication rather than following a universal standard.
This tool reports characters both with and without spaces, plus word, sentence, and paragraph counts, so you can check against whichever limit actually applies to what you're writing.
